Introduction
to Medical Coding and Billing (Tues/Thurs;
10 weeks*)
Medical Billing is the process of
billing insurance carriers and understanding
the insurance terminology for filing
and appealing claims. An insurance
claim starts when a patient has
contact with a health care provider
and ends when you receive a payment
from the patient or insurance carrier.
You will learn about ICD-9(diagnosis
codes) and CPT (procedure codes)
as well as insurance companies and
reimbursements will be covered;
e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, HMO’s,
Blue Cross, Work Comp, etc.
We will also cover modifiers, HCPC
codes, HIPAA, Compliance, HCFA-1500
and other aspects of the billing
field. Certificate of course completion
will be received. Certificate given
after successful completion of course.
Basic Anatomy
and Medical Terminology (Mon/Wed,
10 weeks*)
The class will have an overview
of medical history, medical law
and related ethical issues. The
student will become familiar with
the location and function of the
main organs of the body and study
of internal and external structure
of the body. Prefixes, suffixes,
combining forms, abbreviations,
body structure, and basic anatomy
of all body systems. Certificate
given after successful completion
of course.
